As we are nearing the end of winter, the time and season of water, we are reminded to honor this precious element and resource. As we begin this month in the sign of Pisces, a water sign, we are reminded that we are still in the essence of going within, dreaming and making magic.
Wintertime begins at the Winter Solstice in the sign of Capricorn, the sea goat, then moves into Aquarius, the water bearer, in late January. Although these signs are not "water signs", there is a theme of water within them. Aquarius is followed by Pisces, the yin/yang fish, which also represents abundance. Pisces brings a spiritual quality to our experiences before we end this watery winter cycle with the activating force of spring.
The element of WATER is also represented in this month's gemstone, AQUAMARINE. Pictured above by its natural element, this beautiful and luminous gemstone is both soothing and vitalizing. This crystal is like a captured waterfall in its luminescence crystalline form. Aquamarine is derived from the Latin name for 'water of the sea'.

"In ancient lore, Aquamarine was believed to be a treasure of mermaids and it was used as a talisman to bring good luck, fearlessness and protection to sailors. It was also valued as a stone of eternal youth and happiness"
AQUAMARINE was highly regarded for its blue-green color and clarity, and aids in clear communication and spiritual connection. Robert Simmons describes its energy as being "refreshing as a shower under cool waterfall... it brings one to a relaxed, alert state of consciousness in which one is fully aware of one's own store of knowledge, wisdom, and feelings, and able to articulate them all with clarity and conviction."
The element of WATER speaks directly to our emotions and contains a powerful healing energy. WATER is about currency, flow and intuition. The essence of WATER helps us connect to our depth and inner nature. AQUAMARINE, as a WATER element crystal, helps us open up to communicate our emotions while clearing blocked communication.
